j b. added an idea in Old Steese Upgrade Project!
More round abouts?
PostedThe roundabout at Trainor Gate on the Old Steese needs to be far enough north of the tracks to allow fuel trucks and school busses to make their required rail road track safety stop without blocking the circular motion.

Read MoreAny of the options allowing two-way traffic is preferable to the one way scenario. People have adjusted to no left-turn at Trainor Gate and Old Steese. If the left-turn is allowed, the number of people using that turn will place a large demand compared to the available queue storage and not allow much space for weaving traffic for the NBL turns on the Steese who will make a right turn onto the Old Steese.
The two-way roundabout option would be acceptable and possibly mitigate queue lengths better than the signal. A free channelized right turn (WBR) from Trainor Gate into an additional lane on Old Steese would be great to keep people out of the roundabout and give the SBL turns at Old Steese adequate reaction to perceive gaps within traffic.
The options presented do not show the crossing for peds on the EB approach of the Steese The crossing provides connectivity for the bike/ped path along the Steese between Trainor Gate and College Rd. Eliminating this crossing is unacceptable.
